what are the helpful tips on eye care for computer viewers?

Eyes are one of the most important organ in the human body and vision is one of the most wonderful gift. But often many people neglect the importance of eye care and do not pay proper attention towards eye care.

Spending long hours in front of television or computers is part of peoples life today. Especially if you are a computer professional, this may cause many eyes and vision related problems in future. So what can be done to avoid this?

Here are some useful eye care tips for computer users.

First, its important to find out how you can protect your eyes through eye health exams and by making a few minor changes in your computer viewing habits.

Positioning is everything
Correct positioning of your computer, keyboard and typing copy is essential. Your screen should be positioned about an arms length from your eyes and 20 degrees below eye level. Consider foot and wrist rests for added comfort.

Lighting can make all the difference
Room lighting should be diffuse, not direct, to reduce glare and reflections from your screen. Look into an internal or external glare screen and be sure to set your colour, contrast and brightness levels to suit you.

A little extra help for your glasses
Anti-reflective coatings on the lenses of your glasses can be applied by your optometrist to reduce discomfort and to ease reduced vision from bright and/or flickering light sources such as VDTs and fluorescent lights. And dont forget, your doctor of optometry can talk to you about eyeglasses designed specifically for people who use computers a lot.

Take time out, our 20-20-20 rule

Step I : After every 20 minutes of looking into the computer screen, turn your
head and try to look at any object placed at least 20 feet away. This
changes the focal length of your eyes, a must-do for the tired eyes.

Step II : Try and blink your eyes for 20 times in succession, to moisten them.

Step III : Time permitting of course, one should walk 20 paces after every 20 minutes
of sitting in one particular posture. Helps blood circulation for the entire body.

Blink your eyes

Did you know that on average we blink 12 times per minute? But wait, did you know that when were on the computer we only blink 5 times per minute? That can add up to dry eyes. Relieve the discomfort by using artificial tear drops or gels and remember to blink!

Palming

Sit straight at your workstation and rub your palms against each other till you feel them warm. The warmth of your palms helps soothe and relax tired eyes. Then, lightly cup your eyes with your palms and relax for 60 seconds. Count the seconds in your mind. Repeat this exercise two to three times whenever your eyes feel tired, or as often as you want. While palming, you can either rest your elbows on your desk or keep away from the desk and cup your eyes. Both ways are fine.

Splash water on your face

During breaks, splash water on your face while closing your eyes. This has an overall relaxing effect and helps you feel refreshed.

Use tea bags

Keep two used tea bags in the refrigerator before you leave for work. Once you are home, place the tea bags on your eyes for a few minutes as you relax. This not only soothes tired eyes, but also reduces puffiness.

Eat healthy

Incorporate Vitamins A, C, and E on a daily basis; eat citrus fruits, green leafy veggies, tomatoes, spinach, poultry and dairy products. Pack a box of chopped carrots, cucumber and fresh fruits and munch in-between meals at the office.

Damage Or Loss Of Eyesight

Partially or completely losing your eyesight can lead to a drastically affected lifestyle.  In all likelihood you will have to give up work for at least a short amount of time and your day to day living is going to suffer.  The injustice of having your sight robbed by the carelessness of somebody else leads to hundreds of personal injury claims a year for those who suffer from such an unfortunate circumstance.  Whilst it’s not something people think about in their day to day lives, we can exercise an awareness to lessen the chances of a disaster.

Causes

There are a number of ways in which we can have our eyesight damaged and the least common type is a blow to the eye.  Your natural defence mechanism as a human is to close your eyes and to throw your arms up to protect your face when you’re expecting a blow or collision and this is normally enough to ward off the danger.

Far more common is a foreign body causing the damage.  This can include chemicals and harmful liquids which is more of a risk than people think.  The lack of proper protection in labs and dangerous environments is a leading cause of this problem, but even seemingly innocent liquids like household cleaning products and beauty items can cause permanent impairment.

Foreign bodies also come in the form of debris, grit, sand and dirt.  Those working on construction sites and with grinding materials should always be wearing solid eye protection, as shrapnel and flying objects can easily become lodged in the eye.  The scratching of the cornea is the danger here, as your eyeball becomes unprotected and open to infection.

One of the more infrequent but just as dangerous causes of sight impairment can involve no contact with the eye whatsoever.  Head injuries can manifest themselves as problems elsewhere in the body if nerves and brain cells/stems suffer harm.  The severing or damage of nerves linked to the eyes can permanently destroy somebody’s sight, whilst their eyes are perfectly healthy.

Personal Injury Claims

Along with paralysis and brain damage, damaged eyesight is one of the big pay outs in the personal injury business.     The impact that the loss of eyesight can have on your lifestyle is significant, from interrupting your social confidence to completely inhibiting your ability to work and earn money for yourself.  Personal injury lawyers and the courts are sympathetic toward this and as a result, the average pay out of eyesight related claims can be much higher than less severe injuries.

Eyes & eye care

eyes
Our eye gives us vision and power to see this beautiful world . Its the most important gift from our Creator to us .. so we need to take good care of our eyes

Most computer users suffer from the problem of tired eyes, eyestrain, dark circles and headaches when eyes feel achy, weak, or heavy due to intense use of computer. Fortunately, it is not a disease, and does not require medical treatment but it never hurts to know how to prevent it.

Studies have shown that stress, active nightlife and above all, the fact that most of us spend maximum time in front of the computer lead to dark circles, puffed and tired eyes. Timely eye test & treatment is essential for such difficulties.
Tired Eyes

Specifically with computer users, physical and visual discomfort is experienced by many after just a few hours in front of computers. It appears that PC users suffer from repetitive stress of their eyes and want an immediate solution to revive the tired eyes.
Studies show that most computer users start to feel eye-muscle stress after two or more hours at the computer. This usually starts with tired eyes. With more time at the computer, discomfort frequently spreads to the head resulting in headaches, burning of the eyes, blurred vision, loss of focus, double vision, and neck and shoulder pains. Before it is too late, your stressed out eyes need to be relaxed and revitalized so that you feel fresh later in the day.

Tips to reduce eyestrain
Modify your workstation. Adjust your workstation and chair to the correct height.
Use proper lighting.

Match the computer screen to the brightness of the environment. The contrast between the background and on-screen characters should be high.

Minimize the glare. Use window shades, blinds or drapes to block excessive sunlight or install an anti-glare screen to minimize reflections.

Take frequent breaks. Full-time computer users should take a 10 minute break every hour.

Blink more often. Tears in the eye evaporate more rapidly during long non-blinking phases and cause dry eyes.

Get an eye examination or eye test done.

Re-focus your eyes. Look away from your computer screen every 10-15 minutes and focus for 5-10 seconds on a distant object.

Exercise even when sitting. Move about or exercise frequently.

Itchy Eyes : Symptoms, Causes, Prevention and Home Remedies

Many individual tend to suffer from itchy eyes as soon as the allergy season approaches wherein the eyes become irritated and there is a constant itching sensation. This itching may become frustrating and intense and there may be an irresistible urge to scratch and itch.

There are two types of allergic conjunctivitis;

Seasonal Allergic Conjunctivitis
- typically happens during the spring and fall and is due to the exposure of certain allergens like grass, pollen, trees and weeds.

Perennial Allergic Conjunctivitis
- it happens all year long due to the exposure of household allergens like mold, dust, chemicals, cigarette smoke, pollen, pet dander and pet hair.

Allergic reactions occur when the surface of your eye is exposed to allergens. The reaction triggers the release of histamines which causes itchy eyes, as well as other symptoms like red and watery eyes. Rubbing your itchy eyes is highly discouraged. As you rub your eyes, you release more and more histamines which results in worse symptoms. Also, you can damage, scratch or cause other trauma to the surface of your eye by rubbing the itch.

You can help prevent itchy eyes at home and outdoors with these helpful tips.

At home:
.Vacuum regularly to reduce dust and pet dander and pet hair.
.Keep your windows shut to reduce outdoor allergens.
.Keep your pets out of bedrooms or areas you spend a lot of time in.
.Run your air conditioner to reduce indoor allergens, also keep your air filters and air ducts clean.
.Avoid smoking, especially in rooms with little or no ventilation.

Outdoors:
.Watch the news to check the pollen counts. Pollen counts are the highest between 5am and 10am.
.Dry your clothes in dryer, not outside. Outdoor allergens stick to the fabric of your clothes.
.Avoid or take precautions before doing yard work. Wear face masks, gloves, etc..
.Take a shower after being outside to wash away allergens that have clung to your hair and skin.

If you happen to suffer from the symptoms for an unusually long period or at very frequent intervals, you may need to consult a doctor and ask for proper medical treatment. Meanwhile, you can try out some of the common home remedies that are often used to remedy this condition.

Grow Thicker Longer Eyelashes Naturally : How To and Home Remedies

Everyone wants to look good. They want to beautiful and different than others. They try out new dresses, hair styles, shoes and fragrances. One important aspect of our body that gives us an appealing look is eyelashes.

Eyelashes are like frames to our eyes and it is important for us to take care of them in order to look beautiful. Long and thick eyelashes are a universal symbol of beauty. Many products, such as mascara and fake eyelashes, will make your eyelashes look longer and thicker. Other cosmetics promise to stimulate eyelashes. But there are also plenty of household items you can use to longer and thicken up your lashes.

. Improve your diet to grow longer eyelashes naturally. Without proper nutrition, your body will cease to grow hair, fingernails and even eyelashes. Likewise, anything that makes your hair grow also will help your eyelashes grow.

. Apply natural lubricants, such as olive oil, castor oil or petroleum jelly, to your eyelashes to make them strong. Put the product on your eyelashes at night and wash it off in the morning.

. Cut a piece of the lemon peel and let some of its moisture dry out. Once it is ready, simply place it inside of the olive oil or castor oil. The lemon-infused oil can then be applied, in the same manner, to the eyelids.

. Apply vitamin E oil to your eyelashes with a clean eyelash brush.

. Brush the eyelashes daily because this will help to keep the lashes healthy and stimulate growth.

. Take off your makeup before you go to bed. If you leave mascara on overnight, it makes the lashes more susceptible to breakage and leaves them brittle.

. Take a B complex vitamin to feed the hair. Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid) helps metabolize protein, the material that makes hair and aids in treating anemia, a condition that causes hair and lash loss.

. Take a gelatin supplement daily. The body needs amino acids to grow any type of hair. Unflavored gelatin taken daily supplies 18 amino acids.

. Consider trimming the very tips of the eyelashes. By trimming the lashes, their follicles will be stimulated to grow the lashes back.

Get Rid of Fat Over the Eyes : Causes, Prevention and Treatment

The eyes may appear to have fat deposits over them for several reasons. One of these reasons is that you do, in fact, have fatty globules that have accumulated over your eyes due to genetics or excessive weight gain. Unfortunately, these deposits are not usually affected by weight loss, so cosmetic surgery is one of the few remedies for your eyes. There are also other reasons for the appearance of fat over the eyes that have to do with daily activities and lifestyle.

1. Treat any nasal congestion. If you have trouble breathing at night, the cells around your eyes may become swollen. Often you can resolve this simply by sleeping propped up on two or more pillows; but sometimes antihistamines are necessary to combat allergies.

2. Relieve irritation in the eye area. Compulsively rubbing the eyes or using old makeup that may contain bacteria can cause your eyes to become chronically infected and swollen. Bacteria can actually live under your upper eyelid and cause it to appear fat. Throw out any makeup older than 3 months and relieve your eyes by gently rinsing them with clear water; then treat them with a cold compress for 15 minutes each day. As you remove the sources of irritation, the fat area over your eyes should go down. If it does not, then consult your doctor to see if you have a bacterial infection that needs to be treated with prescription medicine.

3. Tighten up your skin. Use an anti-aging cream with firming agents like vitamins C and A to help the skin over your eyes retain its youthful firmness and stop sagging. You can also take supplements for vitamins A, C and E to help your skin produce more collagen and retain more moisture for a fuller, smoother look. Work with a dermatologist when selecting vitamin A and C products since these can interact with other medicines and sunlight.

4. Avoid carbs and sodium. Believe it or not, simple water retention may be at the heart of your upper eye fat issue. High-carbohydrate, high-sodium foods cause your body to retain water and can cause serious facial swelling that gives some eyes the appearance of having fat deposits over them.
